And We Shall Call It This Land

Hello Again

It's been almost a year since I posted here.  Not sure I really have much to say.  Not sure I will really say much in the future.  But was cleaning up some spam comments and thought I'd drop a quick entry while I was here.  :)

Zombies on the Lawn

It's been a day and I needed something to make me smile...

Never judge a book by it's cover

Give and Take

It's been an interesting week around here.  Things come, Things go.  People come, People go. It seems as if the world is constantly shifting to maintain a balance.  Some days it's almost eerie the way things work out.

For example, I got a letter in the mail the other day from a bankruptcy lawyer.  When I bought my car I fronted the extra money for the service called "tires for life".  The name explains it all.  I got free tires and tire maintenance for as long as I owned the car.  Only restrictions were I had to take it in to a VW dealership to get the work done and I had to meet the timelines for rotating and balancing the tires.  No big deal.  Well apparently the group that provided that service have filed for bankruptcy.  Don't know what will come of it but there is a probability that I will from here on out have to buy/service my own tires.  I'm going to put a call into the contact on the document next week and see what my rights really are and if there is any chance of getting atleast some of my money back.  This would be the "take" side of the story.

On the "give" side, my apartment lease is up for renewal this June.  The price of my apartment has increased everytime I sign a new lease.  Was really not looking forward to it going up again especially with the economy where it is at the moment.  On the same day I got the letter about the tire thing I got a note on my door saying that if I renew in the next 24 hours my rent would not go up.  Woot!  I was planning on living there at least another year until Rohan's school was decided upon so not having the rent go up was a bonus.

In the end it all balanced out.  The money I'm going to lose with the tire debacle I'm going to get back in the saved rent.  Things get back in balance again.

It feels good to be 80

Hit 80 last weekend on my main WoW toon.  It's very nice.  Now comes the fun part.  Heroic dungeons, fast flying, really good gear, reputation building, honor earning.  First step is to a) save 5000 gold for my fast flying lessons and b) get better gear so we don't constantly wipe in heroic dungeons.

As far as gear goes I made considerable process this morning before I headed into work.  Leatherworkers can make a very decent set of mail armor for hunters.  Its called swiftarrow armor.  I finally got my leatherworking up to 425 so I was able to buy all the recipes for the entire set at the guy in Dalaran.  I'd been saving up my leather stashes for quite a while so I was only 30 pieces short so I headed off to the AH to see if I could pick some up for a decent price.  200 gold later I had all the leather and elementals I needed to complete the set.  I am now fully decked out in my nice new armor.

Now I'm going to concentrate on saving gold for fast flying lessons.  Then I'll start working on upgrading the rest of my gear.  And so on and so forth.

Hitting level 80 felt really great but in the long run it's just a really small step to really maxing out my character.

Too bad it was an April Fools joke...

because I would totally buy one for Rohan.  Although the inside material, while accurate, is a bit on the icky side.

Earth Hour

Earth Hour is sort of like open source movement against global warming. On Saturday, March 28 at 8:30 P.M. (local time) millions of people in thousands of cities will turn off the lights for one hour to raise awareness about the link between global warming and energy use.

I think it's a great idea and I'm all up for doing it.

If anybody else is game here's the official website.

Dang

Probably should have seen this coming but right now I'm kind of speechless.  Anime Insider magazine is gone.  It was the last monthly anime magazine in the states.   And I can say I am truly sorry to see it go.

Now as you know I've been a bitter about the american anime industry for a while.  My previous company's handling of all things in general including staff cuts left much to be desired.  In fact to this day I'm still pissed at them.  I poured my blood, sweat, passion, and tears into my job there and in the end I got 3 weeks severance pay and a whole lot of heartache.

But what I went through pales in comparison to this.  Rob, my former boss, has now had this happen to him twice.  He worked his ass off at both Anime Insider and at my previous company.  He is one of the most intense and dedicated people I have ever met with a true loving for what he does.  I can't image how he's feeling right now.  All I can say is my heart goes out to him, Summer, Miguel, and a few others I knew who worked on the magazine.  The wound never heals but you eventually are able to move on.  My best wishes to all the rest of you to finding new jobs.  I'll be rooting for you.

Fun Weekend

Two weekends ago I actually had a really nice weekend.  On Saturday, Cheree and Kristen came over and we had our bi-monthly anime fest.  It was great.  I really look forward to these Saturdays.  We always regress about 15 years in age and have a total blast.  Then on Sunday I got to veg out and play WoW all day.  Also it was the first weekend since early January that I had had completely and totally off from work madness.

From what I gather at work going forward things are not going slow down until the end of March at the earliest.  Guess I should batten the hatches for the storm to come.
